The Blue Bulls have beefed up their forwards for the expected onslaught in the scrums in Saturday's Currie Cup rugby match against Western Province at Loftus Versfeld.

With discarded Springbok loosehead Gurthro Steenkamp available, the Blue Bulls also have the young strongman Werner Kruger at tighthead and the man who has been South Africa's form hooker this season, captain Derick Kuun, between them.

Coach Frans Ludeke has also made provision for two good props in Jaco Engels and Frik Kirsten on the bench with Bandise Maku the replacement hooker.

The return of Steenkamp, who wasn't available last week, is one of three changes to the starting line-up that struggled to subdue the Xerox Lions last weekend.

At fullback, the experience and dependability of Tiger Mangweni will largely make up for the loss of injured Springbok Zane Kirchner, while junior Francois Brummer gets the flyhalf berth with Burton Francis not available.

In a surprise move, Ludeke has brought in Under-21 kicking sensation JC Roos on the bench.

Still at school two years ago, his huge kicks and also dependability at close range, has been opted for after the kicking woes of the Blue Bulls last week, when Brummer and Francis kicked only three from nine attempts between them.
